Artsy Poor People comedy night
The curiously named Artsy Poor People is a new independent initiative launching this Friday (January 17), with a night of stand up comedy that organisers hope will be the beginning of a series of new events. Taking place at the Casa on Hope Street, acts include Liverpool-based performers Matt Davies and Elaine Stewart (who has appeared in Channel 4’s Shameless). The line up is completed by Stephen Lawson, Tom Short, Chris Boyle and Daniel Hutchings. Tickets are £7 and £5 concessions and you can get them from The Casa on the night or in advance from News from Nowhere bookshop on Bold Street. Doors open at 7.30pm, for an 8pm start. Faye Christiansen, the events manager behind Artsy Poor People said: "I've been campaigning to raise the 1,800 euro fee to attend the Atelier young festival management training, and I tried a few things, including setting up a crowdfunding campaign. But one of my friends said 'oh Faye, you'll never get that kind of money because all the people you know are artsy poor people!' and I thought, well, they're the kind of people I want to work with!"At the moment, with everyone struggling and the arts fighting for funding it just felt fitting, and militant. Even if we don't have any money, we're still going to be here doing it."
