Cult director's Homotopia date

Cult director's Homotopia date

"Congratulations on ten years of gay lunacy!" - so yelped Pink Flamingos director John Waters in what could be the best ever variation on the usually deathly dull 'I'm really looking forward to blah blah blah' press release quote.Today, Homotopia made the large and rather exciting announcement that the Pope of Trash himself will be taking to the stage of the Philharmonic Hall in his only scheduled UK date of the year, as part of the LGBT arts fest's tenth anniversary celebrations this winter. He adds: "I can’t wait to see Liverpool, the town I’ve always wanted to come to but never have. I bet it’s as extreme as Baltimore!” Oh John, it'll be right up your street. The creator of Hairspray and collaborator with, amongst others, Divine, Mink Stole, Johnny Depp, Kathleen Turner and Tab Hunter, will be performing his one man show This Filthy World on November 8. Focusing on his early negative artistic influences and fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere.Tickets are £20 or £26 and go on general sale this Friday (May 17) from the Phil's box office on 0151 709 3789.Homotopia's artistic director Gary Everett said: “From modest beginnings in 2004 Homotopia has grown into an international flag-bearer for high quality queer culture consistently punching above our weight. We are very excited to bring an international star like John Waters to Liverpool for our big tenth birthday celebrations.”
