Dyson does Dahl

Jeremy Dyson, erstwhile member of League of Gentlemen and one half the team behind theatre smash hit Ghost Stories, has turned his hand to the short stories of Roald Dahl in Twisted Tales, coming to the Playhouse at the end of March. It's already on stage at the Lyric Hammersmith in London and is another co-production between the venues.

 Exposing the twisted imagination and black humour of Roald Dahl's work for adults, Dyson brings a dark and dangerous world to the stage created from some of the author's most macabre stories, including William and Mary and The Landlady. In Twisted Tales nothing is quite as it seemsand every outcome is surprising. Sweet old landladies have suspicious hobbies, widows seek sweet revenge, and gambling requires more than just money. We're told to "expect the unexpected"... Dyson said: “All those stories are built round incredibly intense emotional moments: the stakes are so high and the reversals are so huge. It’s all about the rug being pulled out from under your feet.” It's another run-in with the dark side for the horror aficionado, who along with Andy Nyman wrote Ghost Stories, which had its world première at the Liverpool Playhouse a year ago, and went on to earn two Olivier Award nominations during it’s year-long run in the West End. The cast includes Selina Griffiths (Cranford , BBC), Nick Fletcher (Dial M for Murder, West Yorkshire Playhouse), Alexandra Maher (Wizard of OZ, Duke’s Theatre) and George Rainsford (Waking the Dead, BBC). An eerie atmosphere is set to filter through the auditorium in Twisted Tales, created by award-winning designer Naomi Wilkinson with lighting by James Farncombe, as the characters fade in and out of the sinister vignettes under the guiding hand of young director Polly Findlay. Twisted Tales runs at the Playhouse from March 30 to April 23.
