Everyman BBC One documentary to air

Looking forward to seeing this - the Everyman will take centre stage next week in a half hour film which is part of the BBC’s prime time On Stage season.The documentary goes behind the scenes at the Ev to find out how it is faring in testing economic times.  Famous Everyman alumni including Alison Steadman, Jonathan Pryce and Matthew Kelly are interviewed about their early years there.Narration is provided by our own David Morrissey, who (you won't need me to tell you) started his acting career at the Everyman’s youth theatre and most recently played Macbeth there in the final production before the old building came down.Viewers also get a glimpse into the making of poet Simon Armitage’s recent critically acclaimed adaptation of The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead (pictured) before it transferred to The Globe in London.The BBC's Craig Henderson, who commissioned the series says: “The films take an in depth look at the venues which play such a vital role in our communities and which rarely have the chance to step into the spotlight themselves. We wanted to follow the ups and downs of theatre life, hear their concerns for the future and ask questions of the people in power.”The documentary is part of the BBC’s wider ‘On Stage’ season looking at some of the country’s most iconic provincial venues, including Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, The Curve Leicester, T.i.E Coventry, Frinton Summer Theatre, York Theatre Royal, Bristol Old Vic , Theatre Royal Margate and more.
