Liverpool Comedy Festival begins

It has shuffled onto the autumn calendar with little fanfare, blaring the logo of little-known corporate sponsor, which seems a little odd. But what is Liverpool without a comedy festival? Starting tomorrow, some 70 shows will take place across seven days (from September 26 to October 6). Huzzah! The star attraction this year is Bill Bailey (pictured) who is at the Phil for two nights (October 4 and 5) with his latest show, Qualmpeddler. There are also appearances from rapper/comedian Doc Brown, Canadian comic Tony Law, top notch stand up Sara Pascoe and comic Simon Munnery. The Royal Court's world premiere stage version of the Laurel and Hardy classic The Sons Of The Desert opens in time to be part of the festival, as well as local talent on display from the likes of Sam Avery, Chris Cairns, Keith Carter, Jamie Sutherland, Paul Smith, Jake Mills, Peter Grant, Dave Twentyman, Adam Rowe and more. This year The Comedy Trust has been working with the Heritage Lottery Fund to produce an exhibition, film and performance about the history of Liverpool comedy. The results can be seen throughout the festival at the museum, the cinema and even in shopping centres, apparently. With no further details available, they say: "Keep your eyes peeled wherever you go". Sam Avery, stand up comedian and Director of The Comedy Trust: “Last year the comedy Festival brought smiles to thousands of Liverpool faces and this year we’re hoping to do the same.
