Lovehistory's Tale of Two Cities theatrical tour
Be prepared to revisit the history of Liverpool, as a brand new theatrical experience is taking to the streets of our city this summer – the A Tale of Two Cities tour.Lovehistory is in the business of transporting Liverpool’s diverse, radical and rich heritage to the present day, and promises a unique theatrical experience which they say will allow audiences to experience street theatre at its very best.Founder Judy McLean says: “Our tours are great as they animate our city with live history and provide fantastic entertainment for residents, visitors and families. They offer a Liverpool experience with a difference and we are very excited about how we can make these street theatre experiences even more exciting.”Beginning at Liverpool’s Town Hall, visitors will be led through seven of the city’s original streets, meticulously tracing the path walked by their ancestors. Groups are guided around Liverpool’s earliest streets and ancient medieval hotspots including Hackins Hay, burial ground for our Quaker ancestors, Leather Lane, Dale Street, Victoria Street, and William Brown Street; all of these streets have a tale to tell and Lovehistory leave no stone unturned in order to unravel them.We’re promised each exciting expedition ends in spectacular fashion on the steps of St George’s Hall.Last year saw the first partnership between Lovehistory and the history department of Liverpool University. The students produced the research for the themes related to the murder cases of James Maybrick and Julia Wallace, and the Irish Famine of the 1840s.Lovehistory has developed a series of school packages that include theatrical performances, re-enactments and creative workshops and are looking forward to working with the students again this year with the aim of strengthening their collaboration.And it is also currently developing a youth theatre, made possible through their partnership with Neighbourhood Services Company Liverpool, an organisation working in community regeneration and developing opportunities for young people, and the Alt Valley Youth Theatre. Their aim is to have a real focus on developing the creative talents of participants who will have an opportunity to promote and celebrate their city through performance.The Tale of Two Cities Tour runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
