MDI's Dance Day marks Central Station closure
Liverpool Central Station closed this week for a six month refurb, a move that has left commuters mighty peeved indeed. Inconvenienced? Why not dance those blues away! In the great traditions of Michael Jackson's Bad video and, erm, Starlight Express possibly, it's been decided Central should be the place for the city to mark the International Day of Dance this Sunday (April 29). Taking place between 12pm and 2pm, it's claimed that "dance will bring the bottom of Bold Street to life", with performances taking place outside the Co-Operative bank building, in the Central Station Bold Street entrance and promenading performances along the street. But wait! The event is brought to you by MDI and there are actually some top notch companies performing. It will be well worth a nose if you're passing to catch MD Productions, the lovely ladies of Movema, China Pearl, the sexay House of Suarez and dt.Elipsis. The event is supported by the Liverpool Central BID, who are using this as an opportunity to mark the closing of Central Station for refurbishment and development. Naturally. Dance Day itself began in 1982, an initiative of the International Dance Council CID and UNESCO, whose opinions count for so much around here.
