New Northern play comes to the Lantern

Following the success of its world première at Manchester’s 24:7 theatre festival last year, new play My Arms is embarking on a tour of the north, including a stop at the Lantern Theatre.Told in reverse order, My Arms is described as a compelling one-hour drama about a couple in crisis after a tragic event that changes their lives forever. The play is an examination of human relationships inspired by stories of the wives of men who go to prison. When Colin arrives home with fish and chips, will wife Helen be able to give him a second chance?The play stars Josh Moran (Royal Exchange, Library Theatre, Coronation Street, Shameless) and Susan Twist (Library Theatre, Bolton Octagon, Royal Exchange, In the Flesh). My Arms also reunites director Adam Quayle (whose Picture a City was part of Everyword 2012) and playwright James Leach, an associate playwright on Bolton Octagon’s Incubate scheme.After six years in the capital, new writing company Box of Tricks bucked the trend and relocated to the North West from London in February last year. Since then, the company has demonstrated a commitment to the new writing theatre scene in the North and looks forward to touring new work and forging new audiences in the region.Joint artistic director Adam Quayle says: “My Arms is a fantastic new play. I’m proud to play a part in bringing the piece from page to stage and delighted this Northern story will have a future life playing to audiences in the North West and Yorkshire.”Catch the play at the Lantern Theatre on Blundell Street on Friday, February 8.
