YNWA at the Royal Court
The final names have been added to the cast of You’ll Never Walk Alone – The Legend Of Liverpool FC, a new play coming to the Royal Court next month. The show, which aims to tell the entire 120 year history of the club in 90 minutes, is written by Nicky Allt and told with the help of songs, stories and archive footage of the club and the city. Holby City star Mark Moraghan and comedienne Pauline Daniels are joined by Jamie Hampson, Anthony Watson and Lenny Wood. Nicky Allt has already had massive success with the stage play One Night In Istanbul and LFC related books such as The Boys From The Mersey as well as, for good or ill, being co-writer of Liverpool’s most seen play of the last ten years, Brick Up The Mersey Tunnels. “With our legendary club 120 years old and finally in safe hands, The King on the throne, Luis, Steven and Jamie ready to take the legend further, and our fanatical supporters absolutely buzzing again, this was the one to write,” he says. The show tells stories of the glories on the fields of Anfield Road from Elisha Scott, Albert Stubbins and Billy Liddell to Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes and Steven Gerrard. With complete access to the LFC archive Nicky Allt has brought together every major incident in the club’s history and created a show that the Royal Court promises will make you laugh, cry and cheer out loud. Director Bob Eaton, the man behind Royal Court productions including Lennon, Our Day Out, Scouse Pacific and countless others, will also be working on the show along with multi-talented musical director Howard Gray. Kevin Fearon, chief executive of Royal Court Liverpool, is also raring to go: “It is the right time for this play and we have got the experience and ability to do it well," he says. "I’m confident that we can produce the definitive stage show about LFC.”
