Jack Ryan comes to Liverpool
As the last post illustrated, on-the-spot action shots aren't really the forte of this blog. However! That didn't stop me accidentally wandering right onto the set of the new Jack Ryan film last night for a nose.
Water Street, Castle Street and the Pier Head had been taken over by a massive crew that appeared to be shooting two scenes simultaneously. More often than not, Liverpool is transformed into a low-budget New York for these things, so it was surprising to see signage down the streets and car registration plates had all turned Russian and we had become Moscow.
The morning's choice of Proper Winter Big Coat helped me be mistaken for an extra -- at this point I realised I might have wandered too far into the action. I considered hanging around before realising everyone else in that situation was getting paid, and I was just hovering around in the cold for a glimpse of Wallander like an idiot.
Yes, Kenneth Branagh is directing this one, and Kevin Costner, Kiera Knightly and Chris Pine are starring. I didn't see any of them and there has been some debate as to which cast members are actually in Liverpool, but the presence of long-lens paps indicated Knightly was probably at the Pier Head -- although the public and photographers were kept far away from what was going on there (as you can see below).
So I totally failed to check out anyone of note, but did hear a guy shouting 'action' through a megaphone and got a tenuous blog post out of it, so the evening wasn't totally wasted.
