A busy week at Unity

Big shows have taken over the city for the next few weeks, with most theatres now settled into the rhythm of some major productions. But it's all go at the Unity, which hosts three different touring shows this week, including the world premiere tour of the latest from Hope Street neighbours Spike Theatre.

 Tuesday (October 19) welcomes Manchester's Coal Theatre with The Fragility of X, which is inspired by the real story of a woman and her twelve-year old son who jumped to their deaths from the Humber Bridge in 2006. whilst on a seemingly happy family holiday, and is described as a surreal heart-warming, new play about a woman and her autistic spectrum teenage son. The two hander stars stage and TV actress Annie Fitzmaurice and Andrew Ellis, best known for his role as Gadget in This Is England. The highly acclaimed international award winner Interiors, inspired by Nobel Prize winner Maurice Maeterlinck’s play, Interior, follows for two nights on Wednesday and Thursday. Rounding off the week with a bit of comedy is Liverpool's own Spike Theatre with its latest work, The Games. The second in a trilogy of stories inspired by real-life events, The Games is a tale of three athletes, all with aspirations of greatness, poised to compete in the largest sporting event in the ancient world. They are drastically under-funded, completely under-prepared and totally out of their depth as they take on the heroes of ancient Greece. This all-new show features a collaboration with Toby Park of internationally-renowned comedy theatre company Spymonkey, who will co-direct and compose the piece. Spike promises that The Games will "pack a Herculean punch full of comedy, music and a lot of falling about, guaranteeing a great night at the theatre". For more information and tickets, visit the Unity Theatre website.
