Adventures of Tmesis
Liverpool physical theatre duo Tmesis have been up to all sorts. They're premiering a new work in progress this week, coming straight after a trip to Africa, which sounds rather exciting. The company, comprising performers Elinor Randal and Yorgos Karamalegos, will present the beginnings of an unnamed project. The solo piece, performed by Elinor alone, will be based the story of a girl who is taken and held captive in isolation. It will explore the relationship between the captor and the prisoner and delve into the world of childhood imagination and survival. The company continue to work with acclaimed North West playwright Chris Fittock on this production and will be working with two world-renowned practitioners during the research period; Nigel Charnock (co-founder of DV8) and Lorna Marshall (a movement expert well known for her work with Peter Brook) as well as a highly skilled creative team to produce stunning visuals and an original score. It's been an interesting time for Tmesis, who have just got back from ten days in Lusaka, Zambia where they performed at the Barefeet Festival with their self-titled first piece. They say: "It was fantastic to perform this piece in Zambia as people said it was nothing like the theatre that is over there already and so people were very excited and responded very well to being able to see something different." The company also worked with young boys from a company called African Dance Factory and created a short acrobatic piece which they also performed at the festival. "Working with these inspirational young men was very inspiring and we are keen to get them to Liverpool to work on a piece for Physical Fest." You can follow the progress of their rehearsal process through videos and images on their Facebook page.A presentation of a work in progress of the piece will be performed at Liverpool Community College on Thursday October 6th at 7.30pm.
