Beating Berlusconi lives on

The stage play Beating Berlusconi may have faced the final curtain, but the show lives on in an e-book that expands the story. John Graham Davies's play told the true story of a working class Liverpool fan who found himself rubbing shoulders with convicted fraudster, underage prostitute dabbler and the then Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi after wandering into the AC Milan directors' box at the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul (even the most disinterested reader should remember how LFC scored three goals in the dying minutes of the game and then miraculously won on penalties). Performed by Paul Duckworth (pictured) in a one man show that brought to life nearly 40 characters, it most recently had a revival at the Epstein earlier this year, and even had a successful run in Norway with native Finn Arne Sorboe at the helm. The website says it is also being translated into Italian. Davies has now expanded on the story with a Kindle edition of Beating Berlusconi that goes back to the 1980s to examine the modern history of inner-city life through the Thatcher years to the Iraq war.
