Because She Loved the Lion
Lady Parts Theatre, the fantastically-named company created last year to showcase strong female roles, returns next month with a new drama from city writer Laura-Kate Barrow.Because She Loved the Lion is the story of a family in turmoil - they say: "The story of a mother, her daughter, her sister and a mouse consumed by a lion with a beautiful mane."The play is is the latest work from Barrow, who is a writer-on-attactment at the Everyman and Playhouse as well as a founder of Lady Parts, and whose other plays include Bump and Trolley-Shaped Bruise.The production, at the Lantern from April 16 to 19, has been supported by the venue. Their own Peter Mitchelson - founder of the Shiny New Festival and its associated events - directs, and it will be performed by Esther Dix, Sarah Keating and Nuala Maguire.After its premiere at the Lantern it will tour venues around the North West and eventually head to the Brighton Fringe.A collection will be made at each performance for the domestic abuse charity Refuge - Barrow says their advice has been invaluable throughout the re-drafting process of the play.For tickets and more information, visit the Lantern's site.
