Legend: Six Short Plays at the Lantern
A new writing company specialising in creating and promoting strong roles for women will stage its debut performance at the Lantern next month. The brilliantly named Lady Parts Theatre presents Legend: Six Short Plays on May 2.The evening comprises six fifteen minute plays on the theme of legends, inviting the audience on a journey through ancient mythology, fairy tales, family drama and crumbling seaside towns.Featuring short plays by Laura Kate Barrow, Katharine Boon, Brian Charity, Hayley Greggs, Ruthie Hartnoll and Mark Till, the works will be brought to life by an all-female cast made up of emerging local acting talent and directed by Freyja Winterson.Lady Parts’ cast and crew have experience in projects ranging from the Everyman and Playhouse's Everyword festival to the Pull-Out Section shows on BBC Radio 2 and the Edinburgh Fringe.Artistic director Laura Kate Barrow said: “Lady Parts Theatre arose from demand. Women have stories as rich and varied as the stories of men, the only difference - they are not being heard. This is not about sexism - this is about trying to create an even playing field for all theatre professionals to compete on. That doesn’t seem an unreasonable request.”Tickets for the show are £5, from the box office on 0151 703 0000 or online at thelanterntheatre.co.uk.
