Blood Brothers returns to the Liverpool Empire
In news that will surprise absolutely no-one, it has been announced that quintessential Scouse musical Blood Brothers will return to the city this autumn. The perennially popular weepie ran in the West End for 24 years, has been touring the UK since 1995, and we never have to wait too long before it pops in at the Empire, which it will be doing at the end of October. Currently, Maureen Nolan is in the starring role as Mrs Johnstone, but the Liverpool cast has not been announced. Most recently, previous Empire Mrs Js have included Mel C and Natasha Hamilton. For those who don't know, Willy Russell's Blood Brothers tells the story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret. The score includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and Tell Me It’s Not True. When Mrs Johnstone, a young mother, is deserted by her husband and left to her own devices to provide for seven hungry children she takes a job as a housekeeper in order to make ends meet. It is not long before she discovers herself to be pregnant yet again – this time with twins - and in a moment of weakness and desperation, she enters a secret pact with her employer which leads to the show's climax. It comes to the Empire from October 28 to November 9. To book, visit the Empire box office, call 0844 871 3017 or go online www.atgtickets.com/liverpool.
