Sweet new writing at the Lantern

Sweet new writing at the Lantern

Nostalgic Liverpool play Sweets for my Sweet by new playwright Bill Snell arrives at Lantern Theatre next month. Following successful run in North Wales, this time the Car Boot Theatre Company will present the performances in support of the Roy Castle Lung Foundation. The play tells the story of two young lovers, Billy and Mo, who work in a 1970s Liverpool sweet factory (Bill Snell himself worked in Barker & Dobsons). Billy is in his early 30s and they have been going out for years when Mo decides he needs to make a decision - either they're getting married or she's moving on. Life gets more complicated for Billy, a shop steward, when he has a confrontation with the foreman and he is left wondering if he will keep his job. Mo is also under pressure, her mother is terminally ill and she wants to tie the knot while her mum can be at the wedding. Played for laughs, this Liverpool romantic comedy also comes with a catchy Tamla Motown soundtrack. Catch Sweets for my Sweet at the Lantern on September 6 and 7. Tickets are £10 adult and £8 concession and can be booked by calling 01517030000 or visiting thelanterntheatre.co.uk.
