BOST go The Full Monty
This month we'll be seeing Birkenhead Operatic Society Trust as we've never seen them before - the company is staging The Full Monty at the Royal Court. Based on the smash hit 1997 British comedy film, the show is the Americanised tale of how a group of ordinary men and their families cope with redundancy. The show will be in the hands of BOST’s regular artistic director, Elsie Kelly from the ITV comedy series Benidorm - together with its professional musical director and choreographer Trisha Gaskell and Charlotte Elverstone. It runs from May 15 to 18. Two of the leading cast members have been nominated for the most renowned awards in amateur theatre. Tony Prince (playing Harold Nichols) and Linzi Stefavov (playing Georgie Bukatinsky) have been nominated for the best supporting actor and best actress awards by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) – the body which oversees all amateur theatre productions. The group sends representatives to watch productions across the country and from the hundreds of shows, actors and actresses, just a handful from each region are picked to go through to a glitzy award ceremony each year. Tony was recognised for his part of Fagin in BOST’s production of Oliver last year, and Linzi has been nominated for her role of Nancy in the same production. In addition to these awards, the society has also been recognised by NODA for the high standard of its productions. It has been nominated for the best musical award for its production of Oliver, and BOST’s Chairman Meryl Langford has been recognised for her performance as Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music, with seven year old Emma Hall also being nominated for her performance of Gretl in the same November 2012 production. Tickets for The Full Monty start from £15 and can be bought directly from the Royal Court box office, on their website: royalcourtliverpool.co.uk or via the ticket hotline on 0870 787 1866.
