Claire Sweeney's Sex and the Suburbs

Sex and the Suburbs is a brand new play by Claire Sweeney and Mandy Muden opening at the Royal Court this week.As the title and promo image might give away, it's one for the girls, described as "a brilliant show for anyone who has ever been in a relationship, packed with laughs and songs, delving into the stories of real women everywhere."Stand up, actress (and award-winning magician) Mandy Muden stars as Penny Crowe, host of a late-night radio phone in and Britain’s leading agony aunt. Claire Sweeney is her co-host Willow Wallace. Along with their producer, Rory Reynolds (played by Carl Patrick) they are more than happy to dish out relationship advice but less happy to take it....The show is based on true stories from real women and all of the parts are played by the three actors. The show is packed full of the requisite ladies night anthems including I’m Every Woman, I Want To Break Free and Somebody Else’s Guy.Ken Alexander directs the show which is a co-production with London producer Jamie Wilson. The show will make its debut here in Liverpool with plans to tour in the future.Claire Sweeney says: “It’s a great show for men and women and it targets a mix of ages so there is something for everyone. We’ve got an older woman trying to find a man, and then a younger woman going on a date and meeting a guy who doesn’t take his head out of his mobile phone. It’s a bit rude but funny, tongue in cheek.”Kevin Fearon, producer and chief executive of the theatre adds: “This is a real feel good comedy and I’m sure the audience will let their hair down. Claire and Mandy have got a great script - this is pure entertainment and the Royal Court is going to be rocking for the whole of May.”Sex And The Suburbs runs at Royal Court Liverpool from this Friday (May 9) until June 7 and tickets are available from £12. Tickets and information are available from 0870 787 1866 or royalcourtliverpool.com.
