Hidden Mother returns to Liverpool

Marking the centenary of the Russian Revolution, award-winning The Off-Off-Off-Broadway Company bring their political comedy-drama Hidden Mother to back to Liverpool next week, having debuted in the city at the Shiny New Festival last year.In her mind Diana is a glamorous singer-raconteuse in Petrograd, and Leon her accompanist. In reality, the pair are patients in a British mental asylum heading for closure. When not singing folk songs or reminiscing about her life as a Russian aristocrat felled by the Revolution, Diana is forced to confront her true memories of life with an unstable mother. What will happen to this fragile human being when her only sanctuary looks set to vanish forever?Hidden Mother stars Laura Louise Baker as Diana and Polis Loizou, who wrote the show, as her friend and accompanist Leon. The character of Z., Diana’s therapist, is played via audio by Jaacq Hugo.Working together as The Off-Off-Off Broadway Company, the trio first hit the fringe circuit in 2009 and have seen a string of successful shows across the UK since, including sell-out chiller Peaceful and award-winning Hitchcock reworking Back Door.They say: "Our desire is to tell unusual stories, with lashings of social and political commentary."Catch Hidden Mother at the Casa as part of the Liverpool Fringe Festival on Saturday, June 17 at 3pm or Sunday, June 18 at 8.30pm.
