Paul McGann, star of Withnail & I and the eighth Doctor Who, is the next special guest to go In Conversation with the Geek Chic girls at a special event next month.McGann will talk about his incredible career which has seen him take on some fantastic roles for TV and film and has cemented him as one of Britain’s best-known drama actors. In a career spanning two decades, notable roles include the Eighth incarnation of the Doctor in the 1996 Dr Who movie, Marwood from the iconic 1980s Bruce Robinson film Withnail and I, as well as Lieutenant Bush in Hornblower.Other notable appearances include Ken Russell's The Rainbow, Dealers, Paper Mask and Downtime. He has also featured in a number of British television’s greatest series, including Jonathan Creek, Waking the Dead and most recently, Luther. He was also hugely respected for his role as a dashing army officer in Alan Bleasdale’s BBC series The Monocled Mutineer. And as we all know, he's not the only member of his family to enjoy a flourishing acting career; Joe, Mark and Stephen McGann are all successful performers and the four of them have even starred together in the 1995 television series The Hanging Gale.Born in Kensington, Liverpool in 1959 Paul McGann was encouraged from a young age to develop his acting talents by his parents and on the advice of his grammar school teacher attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.He says: “I was thrilled to be asked to do February’s In Conversation. Then bashful terror set in until my mate David Morrissey calmed me down and assured me, having done it himself, that you can’t actually die from talking about your life and work in a beautiful room surrounded by friends and family and your favourite music. Guess I will just have to trust him.”Paul McGann is the latest in an impressive In Conversation interview list which has included Mike McCartney, David Morrissey, Janice Long and Peter Serafinowicz. As with previous interviewees, his five favourite songs will also be performed live on stage by five separate acts. The In Conversation series has previously showcased many new and emerging Liverpool artistes including Ragz, Carrie Hayden, Poppy L’mour and Sparkwood & 21 and this event will be no exception. The interview will also include clips and photographs of Paul's life and work on a large screen and be followed by a Q&A from the audience. Organisers Little Atom Productions say the evening will be a fascinating insight into one of the city’s best loved performers and a hugely entertaining evening of fabulously eclectic musical performances. In Conversation with Paul McGann takes place on Saturday, February 4 in St George's Hall's small concert room.
