Into the new year with Impropriety
Our friends Impropriety have a whole host of comedy capers coming our way in the next few months. Their tried-and-tested improvathon and improvised soap opera are returning for 2012; but first they're kicking things off with a big launch and fundraiser later in January. They say: “Impropriety is Liverpool’s premier improvisation theatre company. Using fun, games and messing about a bit to create scenes, songs and silliness never seen before, or to be seen again! With professional performers from a variety of backgrounds, Impropriety creates its own unique style that’s high on improv, low on script.” Formed by the survivors ofOh, Wait, Liverpool’s first Improvathon in 2008, Impropriety have been regularly performing shows, including two further Improvathons: The Last Resort (2010) and Dearly Beloved (2011) and The Regenerates, Liverpool's first improvised soap opera, in venues around the North West alongside running workshops for all abilities. So. On Thursday January 26, they kick things off with a season launch show at the Kazimier in Wolstenholme Square. Acting as a fundraiser to support the rest of the upcoming season, the night will showcase the finest in improvisational comedy, alongside variety acts from around the North West as well as a special preview of things to come. Tickets are £5, available on the door. On March 3/4, Impropriety then present the fourth Liverpool Improvathon, a 33 hour and 32 minute (2012 minutes) improvised marathon featuring some of the best improvisers from the UK, Ireland, America and Canada in “a hilarious celebration of all things spontaneous”. During this time, the cast will forego the luxuries of rest, relaxation and sleep to continually perform a soap opera, of 17 two-hour episodes. The unusual show is based on a format created and made popular by Canadian company DIE-Nasty, who have held an annual 50-hour “Soap-a-thon” for approaching 20 years. The regular Impropriety performers will be joined by special guest performers from around the country for this unique theatrical event. Finally, following on from the success of the 2010 improvised soap opera The Regenerates, which ran weekly during that year’s Liverpool Biennial, Impropriety will once again be embarking on their very own improvised soap. Taking place on every Tuesday night for six weeks from March 27 until May 1 at The Kazimier, the show will involve a ongoing cast of characters and plot lines, and once again will feature special guests from around the country.
