Martini Lounge goes up in the world
The Martini Lounge - the regular burlesque night previously held at the Royal Court - has announced a rather classy change of location.Its upcoming grand showcase will be held at St Georges Hall on Sunday October 31, and tickets have just gone on sale.International burlesque performers Kitten de Ville & Dirty Martini will fly in from America to join hostess Millie Dollar and a raft of UK burlesque stars in a fabulous night of glamour in one of the city's most beautiful buildings.The Martini Lounge treasures the satire and performance art that evolved since its 19th Century origins and has created a classy and delightfully ludicrous night of entertainment in the most pertinent venue to reflect this tradition.The special line-up will see living legend Dirty Martini from New York perform alongside bump and grind artist Kitten de Ville from Los Angeles, both of whom are former Miss Exotic World in a rare and exciting visit to the UK. Joining them on stage will be acclaimed performers Missy Malone, Velma Von Bon Bon and founder of the Martini Lounge Millie Dollar, who is delighted that the night has grown to such an extent that her ambition can now be realised.She said: “Years ago, when I first walked into the Concert Room in St George’s Hall it became my dream to have a show there. It's the perfect setting for these events and after years of running the Martini Lounge and dreaming about one day taking it to the hall I’m very excited to bring something so unique and lavish to my hometown.“Burlesque evenings harken back to nights of old when there was nothing better than sitting in comfort and watching a performer dance, tease and amuse whilst wrapped in elaborate costume. Always cheeky, sometimes naughty, the ladies and gents of the Martini Lounge will scintillate and titillate with their wild and wonderful ways.”The night will be packed with variety and hosted by the magnificent Fred Bear, creator of Bearlesque, plus renowned cabaret performer Des O’Connor (no, not that one), known as the Cabaret King, who has caused a stir within the Burlesque community for his darkly comic act and his talented ukulele playing.This Halloween show will be the first in a series of three showcases, the second taking place in December 2010 and the third in February 2011. Each night will comprise of a dinner show and an evening event.
