MATE Drama Workshop spins The Yarn

Here's news of another Liverpool homecoming after success at the Edinburgh Fringe.MATE Drama Workshop's The Yarn comes back to the Unity from the festival for two celebratory performances on September 18 and 19.  And if it sounds a little familiar, it is -- the show had a run at the venue last June.Written by Rob Brannen and directed by Gaynor La Rocca, The Yarn is set in a rural village in the 1880s. The audience is urged to "step beyond the golden haystacks and be woven into a ragged patchwork of curious tales, painful rituals and bizarre superstitions, as villagers of a close knit community weave together a number of dramatic stories."With the coming of enclosures and the industrial age, the villagers descend into poverty and the tales they tell become increasingly comic and fantastical.Dark comedy, physical storytelling and original folk music combine to create a production they say "challenges the boundaries of traditional community theatre".

MATE Drama Workshop is a multi-generational community theatre company led by a team of professional practitioners.
