New Brick Up run already extended

Definitive "Scouse play" Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels has had its summer run extended before it's even begun. Four weeks away from curtain up, staff at the Royal Court were preparing the “sold out” signs until the extension was announced. The show will now run until Saturday,  July 30. Royal Court chief executive Kevin Fearon said: “I shouldn’t be surprised by this show anymore, but the reaction of the paying public has been amazing. We are already at the back of the balcony for a few shows with more than four weeks to go, and we had the extra dates free so it makes sense to extend. The cast are delighted to add on the extra dates but people will need to book soon.” Brick Up has broken box office records in its previous four outings in the city, and is back for the first time in two years. The venue says up to now, it had sold a combined 130,000 tickets for its 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 runs, and claims the play has been seen by more people than any other in Liverpool. The full original cast is returning for this production. It tells the story of Dickie Lewis, Nick Walton, and Gerard “Gelegnite” Gardner, three men who have had enough. Fed up with being looked down on and mocked by the self proclaimed upper class from the Wirral peninsula, they decide to take the law into their own hands. The Kingsway Three will not be tolled!
