The life and career of Liverpool-born singer Beryl Marsden will be celebrated next month in a brand new musical One Dream. The production also marks the 50th anniversary of the release of her Live at The Cavern LP.The full length show follows sell-out pilot performances at the Cavern last year, and now moves to the city’s Epstein Theatre from March 14 to 16.Marsden said: "I think it is fantastic that our show is going to be performed within weeks of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles first visit to America, because I have fond memories of being with them as a supporting act on their final UK tour in 1965. I was only eighteen years old at the time and Beatlemania was at its peak, so it was an incredible experience for me to appear on the same bill as them. I well remember John standing in the wings as I went on stage shouting out words of encouragement for me, he said 'go on 'Marsey, let 'em have it' - and so I did!”One Dream: The Beryl Marsden Story shows how Beryl was helped in her struggle to overcome a traumatic period in her life by Buddhism, and how this led to her close friendship with singer Sandie Shaw.Sixties singer Sandie Shaw said: “Beryl Marsden's life is one well worth celebrating. This is an uplifting story of one of Liverpool's leading ladies of song told with fun and tenderness. I am not saying this because Beryl is my best friend - she really is amazing.”Written and produced by Mike Howl and directed by Sophie Tickle, the full cast has now been confirmed for the upcoming Epstein Theatre show. Young Beryl will be played by Francesca Davies, and older Beryl by one half of Caz and Britney, Gillian Hardie (both pictured with Marsten below). other cast members include Hayley Davies, Nick Sheedy, James Ledsham, Katie King, Rob Boyle and Danny Woods. The musical features 60s classics, together with some new original material, in a musical which mirrors the ups and downs of the music business and reflects the special charm of the heady days of Merseybeat seen through the eyes of one of its greatest female talents. For tickets, call 0844 888 4411, visit epsteinliverpool.co.uk or book in person at the theatre box office.BM cast
