Royal Court renovation rolls on

The Royal Court is ready to get underway with the next stage of its renovation. The theatre has announced the contractors to modernise the venue as the latest part of the £11.9m scheme - city-based Mellwood Construction will be involved in the transformation of the front of house areas and downstairs studio space. This follows on from architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris drawing up designs as a part of the larger project to completely modernise the building over the next few years.By July 2015 there will be a glass extension built on to the front of the building, new bars and toilets for the stalls foyer and circle levels, a lift to all floors and the development of the downstairs bar into a performance space. The theatre will remain open during the works, with productions programmed throughout, and there will be a further two more phases to come in the renovation project once this section is completed.Gillian Miller, chief exec of the Royal Court Liverpool Trust said: “I think that people will be really excited by this phase. The building will look so different from outside which will get across the message that things are changing and improving at the Royal Court.”To find out more about the project, adopt a seat or donate to the Trust visit royalcourttrust.org.
