LGBT comedy-drama The Ruby Slippers is coming back to Liverpool this summer, in another new space in the Royal Court.A studio space is opening up in the Roe Street venue, and the show stops by from July 24 to 28 as part of this year's Liverpool Pride programme.Life is a drag at The Ruby Slippers, Blackpool’s struggling cabaret drag club. Owner Raz thinks he has met the man of his dreams in barman and flatmate Ryan - buy things might be about to change as Ryan confesses he has been hiding a secret – that he wants to become a woman. On top of that, a rival club has opened which threatens to not only steal Raz’s customers but also his star acts, drag queens Phoenix and Destiny.Written by Emma Culshaw and David Paul under their Break A Leg Productions, and produced by our very own Bill Elms, the show began life at the former Lantern Theatre back in 2015. After outings at the Epstein (read the MADEUP review here) and legendary drag club Funny Girls, it embarked on a North West tour in 2016 and transferred to London’s West End for a limited run in 2017.Kevin Fearon, exec producer at the Royal Court said: “It is such a funny show which is a perfect fit for our new studio space. We are delighted to be hosting a show that is a part of Pride this year and hope to be involved for many years to come.”See the show's website for more info. Tickets are available from the Royal Court website.
