Upside Down, Wrong Way Round
Upside Down, Wrong Way Round is a described as a "twisting voyage of discovery" around the unseen backstage of the theatre. And theatregoers will be more than passive observers, as they follow the tale around the building - and even outside. This new film noir inspired piece of promenade theatre will, they say, explore the darker side of society, the weaknesses of man, forbidden affairs and victims of circumstance. With a fortune teller in the box office, eerie cinema screens, torture from a distance, boiler men with clue-ridden stories of dark deeds and office romances heard in all their glory, those brave enough to step inside are warned: "trust no-one". The one hour performances of Upside Down, Wrong Way Round, from Thursday to Saturday, will take place every 15 minutes from 7pm for groups of 10 to 15 people at a time. The idea of its creators was to work around the Unity building but not specifically in the conventional performance spaces – using everywhere from cupboards to bars and offices to staircases. Unity and Hope Street Ltd developed the idea by inviting past performers and other artists who had worked closely with the venue to contribute, including project directors Cocoloco.
