James Franco's Liverpool Dream

What's James Franco got to do with anything? Is she doing that thing again where she sticks up a photo of a tenuously linked A-list star to a thing that actually has nothing to do with them, just to use a pretty picture? Not this time, dear reader. Hollywood's favourite multi-hyphenate (actor-director-writer-soap star-artist-model-etc-etc) will be premiering a new short film on Channel 4 next week, and the piece, Dream, came to be because it was co-commissioned and co-curated as part of a series by Liverpool's own FACTDream is the latest in C4's fascinating late night Random Acts slot, and FACT, with independent producer Jacqui Davies, have provided them with 25 films from some absolutely world-beating talent, including Marina Abramovic and Turner Prize Winners Mark Wallinger and Mark Leckey. The FACT/ Jacqui Davies strand of films have even recently been screened at the Rome Film Festival, with Franco in attendance. About his three-minute film, Franco says: "Dream is inspired by a variety of sources: images based on personal experiences, personal dreams, images based on other people, death, life, and the photography of Gregory Crewdson. It is comprised of a single roving shot to give a sense of the fluid nature of dreams. We focused on art direction intensely so that the piece is as much a sculpture as it is a film. " Dream will be shown on Channel 4 on Monday at 11.20pm, and after that will be available to watch on both the brilliant Random Acts and Artplayer websites.
