Impropriety - winning awards and hosting first ever schools contest

Congrats to the ladies of Impropriety - company manager Angie Waller and artistic director Rosie Wilkinson - who scooped the 'best social enterprise' trophy at last week's Women in Business awards.

Not only that, but this week they launch a brand new community improv event to showcase their winning ways. Very sadly, following on from the closure of the Kazimier, there is no improvathon this year (sniff). But that doesn't mean Impropriety haven't been keeping active, and this Thursday (March 10) is the first ever Schools Improvageddon.

The company has been working with working with Broadgreen International School and Pensby High School in recent weeks to create teams of junior improvisation masters who will go head-to-head at the Unity in a unique, one-off battle of wits. 

But it’s not all just about the comedy. Ian Hayles, Impropriety's creative director - although not a woman in business, despite a fondness for dressing up as Cleo Laine as and when required - explains: “Improvisation

is fast becoming a skill that employers are actively looking for because of its teaching of confidence, problem solving and social interaction. Schools Improvageddon is giving young people a chance to develop these skills alongside professional improvisers as well as giving teachers the basic tools to continue that work at the end of the project. Schools Improvageddon gives students the opportunity to proudly represent their school in a unique way.”

Future events to watch out for incluse Impropriety Does The Pilgrim on March 31, a PhysicalFest workshop and performance jam on May 22, and their public workshops on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 81 Renshaw Arts Café.
