Manchester-based comedian Edy Hurst comes to Liverpool this week with a free preview of his Edinburgh show, Theme Show.Promising "lo-fi props with spectacularly daft surprises", his debut hour long show sees him "plundering against forces far beyond his reach" (in his own words) to create the world’s greatest theme park. That's right. With years of experience as a theme park employee, Edy has plenty of hilarious stories, characters and observations from the other side of the amusement industry. Unfortunately, confidentiality agreements mean that he cannot talk about any of this, but there’s nothing in there about setting up his own park (within the context of a stand up show).Lacking funds, construction knowhow or emotional resilience, will Edy be able to convince the local planning committee to back his dream park? Expect rides (homemade), fireworks (homemade), and more (homemade), in the world’s first (only) theme park show, at 81 Renshaw on Thursday, August 10 (show starts 8pm and is free).Edy regularly performs alternative comedy around the country, combining an oddball lingo with inventive and playful pieces, blurring the line between improv, musical comedy and stand up.He started stand up after winning the Tickled Pig student competition in 2013, and went on to be runner-up of Red in the Face 2014, Semi Finalist Great Yorkshire Fringe Act of the year 2016, and is one quarter of Fat Moron (City Life's second best comedy night in Manchester 2016). He is currently nominated for the BBC New Comedy Award, performing on BBC Radio 4.
