David Gest to star in Liverpool Royal Court's Christmas show

Today couldn't go by without mention of Royal Court Liverpool and their announcement that David Gest will be appearing in the entire nine week run of their Christmas show. What a curveball! Gest has been living in Liverpool for the last couple of months and has often been spotted around and about. Now it looks as if he'll be staying a little longer, after signing up for the specially adapted role of Frankenstein’s monster in A Nightmare On Lime Street. The production is the latest in a series of hit Christmas productions penned by our own Fred Lawless, and runs for 51 shows in total from November 23 to January 13, 2013. It gets weirder. The run includes a special star-studded charity gala performance, with guests to include Katherine Jackson, mother of Michael, as well as the superstar singer’s siblings, Tito and Rebbie. “David is a complete natural for a role as a monster who wants to be a Broadway star," says Tito, before backtracking: "I’m sure he’ll put all his effort into making this a huge success and, let’s face it, everyone in the UK knows he is very funny." Kevin Fearon, Chief Executive of Royal Court Liverpool: “Our Christmas shows have grown year on year and are now very much part of a Liverpool Christmas. We are all delighted that an international star like David has joined the family here to take the show to another level.” Announcements this genuinely surprising don't come along every day. The Royal Court's 'Scouse plays' always rely on virtually the same cast of regional talent, so for anyone to get top billing over Drew Schofield is extraordinary enough, never mind it being the ex-Mr Liza Minnelli. It's a PR coup for the theatre and is bound to do wonders for their fundraising campaign. But was anyone else's first thought...:
