New musical Love and Fish Fillet at the Lantern Theatre

A new piece of musical theatre exploring the romantic ideals of love in the modern era premieres at the Lantern Theatre tomorrow (Wednesday July 11). The curiously titled Love and Fish Fillet is a one woman show performed by Meike Holzmann (of Liverpool band the Lonesome Georginas) in the role as Nim, who is described as: "A romantic, loving and devoted hero... being dropped into the plasticity of the recent social psychology of humankind". Nim finds herself in an infected postmodern world which is eroded by epidemic isolation and “living together loneliness”. Love and Fish Fillet is a tragicomedy about contemporary social relationships -- those based merely on desire and pleasure, when the principles and possibilities of collectivity, social responsibility and love have no meaning. Holzmann and writer-director Egle Meistaite ask: "What do people do in the absence of love and bonds? Get busy in networking traffic, confessional rituals, counseling, surfing the net and seeking virtual connectedness… But is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle and bore ourselves…?" The performance starts at 8pm and is free.
