Goodnight to the Everyman

Here are some beautiful pictures taken from the Everyman finale. How to describe it for those who couldn't be there? Hm. It all began with a brass band and a big yellow digger making their way up Hope Street towards the theatre in a New Orleans funeral style. On a stage outside the venue, there were some earnest readings and a lovely version of So Long, Farewell from the Sound of Music by the Sense of Sound choir, and although that was all well and good, a lot of people in the crowd couldn't really see or hear what was going on. So the Finale did what we all thought it would have to do, and took to somewhere everyone would be able to check it out.

Soon after, the iconic red signage of the Everyman was turned off, for good. It would have taken a heart of stone not to have gasped when that happened. Were they really going to end it all, like that, in front of everybody?

Slowly. the crowd could see, letter by letter, a replica of that famous Everyman signage propped up on the roof of the theatre. With a bang, each individual letter was set alight, like firecrackers. Within moments, that familiar signage burned on the skyline. Those below could feel the heat. A series of projections on that main solid front of the theatre were a good idea in theory but did not show up  enough to be make enough of an impact. In time, a spraypainter was elevated up to the front of the building to deliver a final message -- "Be back soon".
