Macula1

If you haven't seen the Macula Spectacular at the Pier Head, then there's one more chance to catch it tonight, and it is a seriously unmissable event. There's been attempts at projected light shows off the city's buildings before that have never quite hit the spot -- to the extent that most things describing themselves as son et lumiere were generally worth avoiding. This, however, really is like nothing you'll have ever seen before (unless of course you have been lucky enough to have previously seen the work of Czech team Macula).

Part of the Liverpool on the Waterfront series, the scope of this visual extravaganza, which begins on the Liver Building to mark its centenary and moves over to the new museum, offers the proverbial feast for the senses. Accompanied by sound and music, the Liver Building show takes us through a quick history of the city, from the plague to slavery, the Fab Four to the 2008 La Machine spider. From there, it's over to the museum for a stunning abstract show based very carefully and accurately around the frame of the new building.

It starts all over again for the last time tonight (Sunday, July 24) at 10.15pm after a free public concert from 6ix Toys. Don't miss it. An event that leaves you walking away shaking your head in disbelief while bursting with admiration and gratitude for the city council (really) doesn't come along every day.
