Mother Goose at the Casa
Hope Street-based Burjesta Theatre bring panto to their home of the Casa for the first time this week - with a Mother Goose that promises "a combination of traditional pantomime and Italian 'commedia dell'arte' comic knockabout", meets... Johnny Cash?Based on the original 1806 Drury Lane production, the panto tells the tale of Columbine and Harlequin, young lovers prevented from marrying each other by the bride-to-be's mean-spirited father, Pantaloon. On the run, they meet Clown, Oddfish, some country sprites and of course Mother Goose; will she be able to right the wrongs that she sees all around her and retrieve her Golden Egg, lost far beneath the sea waves on the ocean floor?Music is thrown into the mix from Johnny Cash, the Beatles, the Village People and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. With its community roots, Burjesta has kept ticket prices low, at £7 for adults and £5 for children - available via this link or on the door. Performances run from this Saturday (December 9) through to January 13.
