Introducing: The Sketch Men
Attempted Jokes is the new one hour show from up-and-coming LIPA graduate comedy duo The Sketch Men. "We feel as though sketch comedy has been a bit forgotten in this country, specifically on screen," says Sketch Man Zach Slater. "There’s a plethora of strong acts, many of which we’ve seen, who are trying to raise their profile, but few managing to get that big break. It seems as though the genre has fallen out of favour a touch, and we want people to remember that sketch comedy still has a thriving pulse."The Sketch Men are an arm of Duck and Cover Theatre, a northern-based company formed by Slater and partner in theatrical crime Jack Taylor-Wood.They took their debut show Guaranteed Nudity to the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe, and since then the boys have been working hard to improve their form. Jack said: "We learnt a lot during the process of writing, producing and performing the last show. Guaranteed Nudity was a topical show, it explored some quite heavy issues happening around the globe, albeit through comedy. This time we tried to really get to the essence of sketch comedy and embrace the silliness." Catch them this Thursday (April 14) at 81 Renshaw, with more tour and festival dates to come.
