Roxanne Pallett joins cast of Ladies Day

Former Emmerdale and lads' mag favourite Roxanne Pallett has joined the cast of the Royal Court's summer comedy Ladies Day. The show will run from June 14 to July 13 and will be Ken Alexander’s first production as artistic director. The play, by Amanda Whittington, was originally performed by Hull Truck Theatre Company in 2005 - the original setting was Royal Ascot at York Racecourse, but this version will (natch) see the action moved to Aintree Ladies Day. The show will be welcoming back old friends of the theatre too, including Eithne Browne, Lynn Francis, and Jack Lord, with the cast completed by new faces Angela Simms ( last seen in If The Shoe Fits), and Pallett, who was last on the Liverpool stage in the Rocky Horror Show earlier this year. In Ladies Day, Shelley wants to be famous, Jan wants to be free, Linda wants a nice feller and Pearl wants to retire. None of them want to be packing fish. What they really, really want is a bloody good day out in their posh frocks where they can have a giggle. Why not a day at the races? Kevin Fearon, the show’s producer and chief executive of Royal Court Liverpool, said: “When this script landed on my desk I knew it was a great show. It is a real feelgood comedy and some of the audience will be wiping away a tear at the end. The cast are a great bunch and we were really impressed by Angela and Roxanne at auditions so we can’t wait to have them here for the start of rehearsals. Jack will be the busiest of the bunch though as he plays six different parts." Tickets and information are available from royalcourtliverpool.com or on 0870 787 1866.
