Suitcase Ensemble's World War I centenary project
Marking the Days is a new World War I project from city-based theatre company The Suitcase Ensemble, in partnership with an Everton church. The public launch event, open to all, takes place on Saturday August 2 from 12pm to 3pm at St Luke The Evangelist on Goodison Road.Together, they will look into the history of the area and find its echoes in the present, in a new project to mark the centenary of The Great War. The Marking The Days launch will be a free drop-in event that will include creative activities exploring the impact of WWI, and an exhibition of art and poetry from local school children commemorating local men who fought in the war.The project team is especially keen to meet anyone with photographs or memorabilia linked to the First World War, and a genealogy expert will be present to advise attendees on researching their own family history.Local school children will take part in the project through activities at their schools, and young people can also join a new group, St Luke’s Youth Creative, which will creatively engage with the historic material unearthed through the project’s research activity.Marking the Days is funded by Liverpool City Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England. There will be two more events in the autumn - keep an eye on the Suitcase Ensemble's website for more details.
