The Overbury Conspiracy at the Lantern

The Overbury Conspiracy at the Lantern

A "Jacobean revenge drama with a spicy dash of cabaret" is coming to the Lantern. City-based playwright and director Maeve Middleton presents new work The Overbury Conspiracy on Friday and Saturday July 5 and 6 - a historical drama based on the true-life murder of courtier and poet Sir Thomas Overbury in 1613. Set in the court of King James I, the The Overbury Conspiracy’s narrative draws from criminal court records, letters and journals from the period; as celebrity occultist Simon Forman, darling of the Jacobean chattering classes, guides the audience through a web of scandal, political manoevering and murder. With original music by Ged Sugrue and Rowan Dyer, it features an all-Liverpool cast.
