The Unthinkable Mystery of the Indigo Star
Sherlock Holmes Murdered! Priceless Diamond Stolen! Can the world’s greatest (remaining) detectives solve the case and escape with their lives? Find out in… The Unthinkable Mystery of the Indigo Star, which is on until Friday (September 13) at the Unity Theatre. Sefton-based theatre company Gambolling Arena's new comic thriller is written by Liverpool writer Ed Bixter. The Unthinkable Mystery of the Indigo Star (or, #thedetectives) features three of fiction’s most celebrated detectives: Jules Maigret, Jacques Clouseau and Hercule Poirot, on the hunt for a missing jewel and the murderer of Sherlock Holmes. As the sinister plot unfolds onboard the Orient Express between Paris and Venice, it becomes clear that their lives – or worse, their reputations – hang in the balance. The Unthinkable Mystery of the Indigo Star is Gambolling Arena’s second newly commissioned work, following on from I Wish You Love (written by Sarah Hymas) which explored the complex friendship between Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich. Gambolling Arena’s Artistic Director Suzy Walker said “I wanted the company’s next piece of new writing to be something that really contrasted with I Wish You Love, so we came up with the idea of a dark comedy and then Ed and I discovered a shared love of the classic whodunit and the big name detectives. It’s somewhat of a cliché but this show is unlike any of Gambolling Arena’s earlier work and I am really excited to premiere the piece at The Unity Theatre.” Ed Bixter is a performance poet and writer, and one half of Liverpool-based experimental theatre company Popular Demand. The Unthinkable Mystery of the Indigo Star is his first full-length script for stage. For tickets, call the Unitybox office on: 0844 873 2888 or visit unitytheatreliverpool.co.uk.
