The V-Day Vagina Monologues
V Day! Are you ready? It's not all teddy bears and cheap red knickers, you know. How about getting involved with a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls instead? The Capstone will be hosting a one-off benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues on Feb 14. The show's writer and original performer Eve Ensler first established V Day to raise awareness of issues affecting women and girls around the world, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. The Liverpool reading of Vagina Monologues will be performed by a cast of 18 experienced local performers, migrants and mothers in aid of Migrant Artist Mutual Aid, a local network producing community cultural events aiming to promote cohesion and intercultural understanding while raising money for migrants in crisis. The smash hit play was first performed off-Broadway by Ensler in 1998, who wanted to "dive into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences". Tickets are available from the TicketQuarter box office in Queens Square or online at www.thecapstonetheatre.com. What is V-Day? from V-Day Until the Violence Stops on Vimeo.
