It could be coincidental timing for a new piece of writing set against the backdrop of a Merseyside derby, as one might be due by the time this premiere comes round. The Match is an original play forming part of the Write Now one act festival, which returns to the city next month. A story about love, loyalty and acceptance, about coping with debilitating illness and keeping your sense of humour, about living with ghosts from the past but maintaining an incurable optimism for the future, The Match "radiates the spirit of Liverpool". Actresses Annie Edwards and Sheila Jones, who performed in last year’s festival shows Mrs Bojangles and Rocker of Ages, join John Windsor to form the cast for what is described as “a witty and thought-provoking three-hander”. Director Liz Stephenson says: “I was drawn to The Match because it is an example of realistic and believable character-driven drama at its very best. I’m so thrilled to be part of a festival that champions new writing and brings together talent in the North West.” The Match is one of ten new one-act plays that make up the Write Now Festival 2012. The nine-day festival which runs from March 30 to April 7. The Match will be showing at The Actors’ Studio on Friday March 30 at 9.30pm, Monday April 2 at 6.30pm, and Thursday April 5 at 8pm.
