Trolley-Shaped Bruise at the Unity

Up-and-coming city playwright Laura Kate-Barrow has seen her work feature across a number of new writing showcases recently, and this week premieres her first full-length play.Trolley-Shaped Bruise is on at the Unity Theatre tonight (May 21) and tomorrow.Taking place over the course of one night, the play is a glimpse into the lives of recent graduates who have found the real world isn’t all they had hoped it would be.Through a combination of storytelling and real-time conversation, Trolley-Shaped Bruise explores new found friendship and running from the marks of the past. Kate (Cat Stobbs) and Danielle (Rachel McLinn) are in a police waiting room. The name waiting room has never seemed more appropriate. Danielle is used to waiting, stuck in a rut with a grey house and draining call centre shifts - Kate can’t remember the last time she stayed still; especially not with someone else.Laura-Kate Barrow graduated from the Everyman and Playhouse Young Writers Programme in 2012 and joined Hope Street Limited’s Emerging Artists Programme. Since then she has had work produced by Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, First Take Films, Everyword Festival at the Playhouse Studio, and Theatre in the Rough Festival.She is currently young writer on attachment at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton. Her second full-length play Bump is being produced as part of this year’s 24:7 festival in Manchester.As well as all this, Laura-Kate is a founder member of The Annexe Writers and artistic director of Lady Parts Theatre, that each holds regular nights of new work around Liverpool city centre.For tickets and more information about Trolley-Shaped Bruise, visit the Unity’s website.
